For many years, the Volusia Soil & Water Conservation District (VSWCD) has been holding it’s annual tree sale at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. Each year, Volusia County residents purchase thousands of bare root seedling trees at this event to enhance their landscapes, replace harvested or damaged trees, or for other environmental purposes.
As urban growth, fires, weather and other factors have greatly impacted our environment in many ways over the past couple of years, trees are one of the nature’s greatest tools in maintaining the natural balance of our delicate ecosystem. They not only greatly enhance the beauty of our surroundings, but they also provide oxygen, prevent soil erosion, help purify water, provide shade and provide food and shelter for wildlife.
Again this year, the VSWCD is planning for another incredible sale! This will be a 1-day sale on February 1st, 2014 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. The sale will once again be held at the Main Entrance to the Volusia County Fairgrounds (west of the Farm Bureau office) located on S.R. 44 near I-4 exit 118.
Seedling trees that are available this year are:
Flatwoods Plum, Southern Red Cedar, Live Oak, Shumard Oak, Laurel Oak, Wax Myrtle, River Birch, Flowering Dogwood, Yellow Poplar, Red Bud, Bald Cypress, Fringe Tree, Southern Sugar Maple, Ashe Magnolia, Sweet Gum, Winged Elm, Chickasaw Plum, Ginkgo, Sycamore,
